Francesco De Fabiani and Federico Pellegrino win the World Cup Team Sprint in Sweden at Ulricehamn, demonstrating a fantastic condition towards the World Championships in Oberstdorf
Ulricehamn, Sweden - Feb. 07th, 2021 - Italy on the top of the world today, 7 February 2021, at the end of Team Sprint skating held in Ulricehamn in Sweden.
Immediately protagonist in the semifinals, the "Azzurri" team ran excellently, on one hand saving precious energy in the initial stint, on the other in an unscrupulous way, so as to allow the De Fabiani-Pellegrino duo to win a long sprint almost with a significative gap.
The race, also very important to consolidate the harmony in view of Oberstdorf, the World Championships appointment, allowed the two Azzurri to confirm themselves among the best in the world in this format, which had also given them a bronze medal in Seefeld in 2019.
Francesco De Fabiani, needless to say, is very happy: «It was a great day for me and for my teammate, Federico Pellegrino. I was fine and had great materials. Knowing I was racing with Chicco, and knowing his value and above all his current state of form, for me the important thing today was certainly not to lag too far behind avoiding falls. The important thing today was to stay focused, even along the bends to avoid crashes that would have compromised the result of Team Italy».
The finale gave the couple yet another satisfaction: «Well, getting a victory of this type just a few days before the World Championships is fantastic - adds the CSE Alpine - let's say it's good for morale and obviously this is the best way approaching the world championship in Oberstdorf. Surely a big thanks go to the group of technicians, to the Italian national team, and to all those who follow us and motivate us to give our best».
At this point, the World Championships appointment is more than just a chance: «We have already done a test in Oberstdorf, I know the tracks well and have always done well in Germany. The Team Sprint with Chicco will certainly be a great opportunity for us. Obviously there will also be individual races, starting from the 50 Km Classic, an appointment that has always teased me. Soon I will decide very carefully which races I will take part in».
